Welcome to the Dragons concept page.
This page is a work in progress and will be added to over time.
Dragons are loosely defined, as the title covers a broad variety of documented mythical creatures of old stories and cultures. The title extends around the world, and over generations upon generations. Even today, the concept of a “dragon” is being used in new, creative ways to tell stories and add to the development of fictional worlds.
On this site, the dragon title will be used broadly. The sub-species of dragon-kind shown will generally have a clear connection to some aspect of a previously established concept.
To make organizing my dragon concepts more manageable and understandable, the concepts will be put into different sub-species categories. These categories may expand further into more categories... sub-sub-categories. Sub-species categories have their own rules and defining traits that are shared among all concepts placed under them.
- Elements
(more will be added over time!)
Dragons of Elements are defined by their connection to a particular element.
These elements are expanded on individually.
Sea dragons are bound to the sea. They vary greatly depending on their environment, and flourish among other marine life forms. Sea dragons may come to the surface or shores and interact with life on the lands; they may reside in the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean; they may travel long distances, riding currents - or they may find their place in coral reefs. Regardless of their behavior, appearance or preferred residence, they are always bound to the waters of the world.
Earthen dragons make their home in different terrains over the vast lands of their world. They are often flightless, though the only major requirement that defines this sub-species category of dragon-kind is that the documented beings must have a binding connection to the earthen lands, whether that be represented in their physical form, magically/spiritually or through any other naturally occurring bind.
Ember Soul dragons carry traits of the mythological creature called the Phoenix in their souls. As such, they are virtually impossible for hunters or warriors of most kinds to defeat, as once their bodies are broken down into an Ember Gem, they begin to reform with full strength returning to their vessels. This sub-species generally includes highly intelligent breeds, who are known to form contractual bindings with spirits of flame.
Bearer dragons are deeply connected to nature and the most ancient roots of natural elements. They are generally known to be peaceful beings, highly socially and emotionally developed and bond builders.
Exile dragons are a complicated, heavily varying class of dragon species that are grouped as such due to their afflictions resulted from breaching an elemental contract. Breaches are defined differently depending on the original element of the dragon. Exiles are seen as symbols of hatred, omens of misfortune to come and dark harbingers of evil, though there are many cases in which Exiles remove themselves from their lands in search of peace... only to be terribly misunderstood.
Ancients are one-of-a-kind dragons that rule among the most cherished deities. Unless their power has been depleted with time or force, they are virtually unmatched elder beings with unthinkable influence over their worlds.
Sea Dragon | Sail
Powerful and versatile muscles and fins allow Sail Dragons to not only travel underwater at incredible speeds, but do so with unmatched agility and grace.
They commonly appear near shores and close to the surface of their waters, their sail fins extending upwards and breaching the waters to be observed by nearby land beings and sailors.
Sea Dragon | Briny
Briny dragons have a thick external guard that protects them from would-be predators or attackers. Some breeds under the Briny title have points on their exteriors laced with an internally produced poison. Their tails are incredibly thick and rigid, layered with multiple organic shields that clack and scrape against each other as the tail curls inward.
With the use of their wide,
Exile Dragon | Irrevund
A sickly form of Exile created by the merging of 3 weakened lesser dragons into one body, the Irrevund form is riddled with corrupted matter and expels strong waves of distorted essence, causing uneasy, tense and simply negative emotions in those near to the Exile.
Due to the combination of multiple, previously separated forms into one Irrevund, their wants and needs tend to
